1/11/2024- Today I sobbed to “I Will Follow You into the Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie in the shower, after Hanif Abdurraqib

from Poems about Death and Transformation

I thought we made the deal to follow and be followed into the dark / I thought I’d

have the warmth at the end of the day / Maybe it's beautiful that I believed so /

maybe it’s beautiful I / could believe / again / I hold both loss / and / promise of

the future / in my chest / and they chase each other/ like sparrows / they devour

each other/ like the snake that eats its own tail / both flutter / both consume / the

way I thought I’d follow/ and be followed/ into the dark / and I guess/ like

sparrows fly / like the snake eats its own tail / I believe / in my warmth / in my

follow
